Location & Access
Hirokawa Beach Station is situated in Hirogawa, Arida District, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. It is the sole station within the town of Hirogawa, though the town's central area is actually closer to Yuasa Station. An interesting linguistic note is that while the station name uses "Hirokawa," the current reading of the town's name is "Hirogawa." When the station first opened, the town's name was also read as "Hirokawa."
Railway Lines
The station is operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and serves the Kisei Main Line, also known as the Kinokuni Line. It features two side platforms and two tracks. Local trains stop here, but Limited Express Kuroshio and Rapid services do not. The station is unstaffed and does not offer accessibility features.
Station History
Hirokawa Beach Station officially opened on March 14, 1993. The railway line itself was electrified in 1978. In fiscal year 2019, the station served an average of 197 daily passengers.
Travel Tips
Despite its evocative name, Hirokawa Beach Station does not have a sandy beach in its immediate vicinity. Travelers looking for coastal attractions should plan accordingly. For those visiting the town center of Hirogawa, Yuasa Station might be a more convenient option.
