Location & Access
Himejima Station (姫島駅, Himejima-eki) is conveniently situated in Nishiyodogawa-ku, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Specifically, it's located at Himesato 1-chome, Nishiyodogawa-ku, Osaka City. The station is operated by Hanshin Electric Railway and is easily accessible, with a bus stop connection available for further travel within the area.
Railway Lines
The station serves the Hanshin Electric Railway Main Line, identified by the station number HS 05. While primarily a stop for local trains, Himejima Station gains special significance during the annual Yodogawa Fireworks Festival (なにわ淀川花火大会). On these festive days, some express trains make a temporary stop at Himejima, providing convenient access for festival-goers.
Station History
Opened in 1905, Himejima Station was originally known as Hiejima until 1925. Over the years, its service patterns have evolved. It was once a stop for 'Section Express' and 'Semi-Express' trains during specific hours. However, with timetable revisions, including the discontinuation and later reintroduction of 'Section Express' and the suspension of 'Main Line Semi-Express' in 2009, Himejima Station became primarily a stop for local trains. The special express stops for the Yodogawa Fireworks Festival are a notable exception to its current service.
Travel Tips
If you're planning to attend the spectacular Yodogawa Fireworks Festival, Himejima Station can be an excellent access point due to the temporary express train stops. Otherwise, it serves as a reliable local train stop for exploring Nishiyodogawa-ku and connecting to the wider Osaka area via the Hanshin Main Line.
