Gero Station (下呂駅, Gero-eki) is conveniently located in the city of Gero, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), it serves as a vital transportation hub for the region. The station is situated 88.3 km from Gifu Station along the Takayama Main Line.
Railway Lines
The station is a significant stop on the Takayama Main Line. All Limited Express Hida trains make a stop at Gero Station, making it easily accessible for travelers. As of March 2016, the operation of KiHa 75 series trains on the Takayama Main Line extends from Gifu Station to Gero Station, while local trains between Gero Station and Takayama/Inotani Stations are exclusively operated by KiHa 25 series trains. Gero Station also marks the northernmost point of the Takayama Main Line covered by the Aozora Free Pass.
Station History
Gero Station officially opened its doors on November 2, 1930, making it a historic landmark in the region with over 90 years of service. It is a staffed station, featuring a Midori no Madoguchi (ticket office) for passenger convenience. In fiscal year 2015, the station served an average of 826 daily passengers.
