This staffed station, situated at an elevation of 351.9 meters (1,155 feet), serves as a gateway to the region's renowned ski resorts and hot springs. Railway Lines
The station is a vital interchange, hosting both the high-speed Joetsu Shinkansen and the conventional Joetsu Line. Shinkansen services include the 'Tanigawa' trains, which originate and terminate here (with some extending to Gala-Yuzawa Station during the ski season), and select 'Toki' services. Additionally, most Hokuhoku Line trains, originating from Muikamachi Station, operate directly to Echigo-Yuzawa via the Joetsu Line. Historically, it was also a terminal for the 'Hakutaka' limited express, connecting to the Hokuriku region via the Hokuhoku Line until March 2015.
