Location & Access
Chikuzen-Maebaru Station is strategically located in Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture, making it the central station for the city. Situated at Maebaru Chuo 1-chome, it offers convenient access for both residents and visitors. Railway Lines
The station is a vital part of the JR Kyushu Chikuhi Line (JK08). It marks a significant transition point: the line is double-tracked towards Meinohama, while it becomes single-tracked towards Karatsu. Chikuzen-Maebaru Station is also the interchange point for Fukuoka City Subway Kūkō Line trains, with Fukuoka City Transportation Bureau rolling stock operating up to this station. During daytime hours, all trains turn back at Chikuzen-Maebaru. It is a stop for rapid services, with local trains operating towards Meinohama on weekdays, and rapid services running between Nishi-Karatsu and Meinohama on weekends and holidays.
Station History
Originally opened on April 1, 1924, the station was known simply as Maebaru until October 1, 1937, when it was renamed Chikuzen-Maebaru. Before the electrification of the Chikuhi Line, the express train 'Hirado' used to stop here. With over a century of history, the station has evolved into a modern transportation hub, handling a significant daily passenger volume, ranking 23rd among JR Kyushu stations in FY2020 with 5364 daily passengers.
