Its convenient location offers connections to bus services, further extending its reach into the surrounding areas.
Railway Lines
Asaka-Nagamori Station serves as a junction for two significant railway lines. It is the official terminus for the Suigun Line, though all trains on this line continue to and from Kōriyama Station on the Tōhoku Main Line. The station is also a stop on the Tōhoku Main Line itself, providing connections towards Sukagawa and Kuroiso to the south, and Kōriyama and Morioka to the north. This dual line access makes it a crucial point for regional travel.
Station History
The station first opened its doors on October 18, 1909, under the name Sasagawa. It was later renamed Asaka-Nagamori in 1931, reflecting its current identity. Over its long history, the station has evolved to meet the changing needs of the region, becoming a staffed station with a Midori no Madoguchi (ticket office) to assist passengers. In fiscal year 2018, the station served an average of 2,476 daily passengers, highlighting its continued importance.
Travel Tips
When traveling through Asaka-Nagamori Station, be aware that while it's the official end of the Suigun Line, all trains continue to Kōriyama Station, offering seamless transfers to other lines. The station's staffed ticket office is helpful for purchasing tickets or making reservations. Consider using the connecting bus services for destinations not directly accessible by train, providing greater flexibility for exploring Fukushima Prefecture.
