Location & Access
Anan Station is conveniently located in Anan, Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, serving as the city's representative station. It is easily accessible, offering parking facilities and being fully accessible with platforms reached by a bridge equipped with elevators. The station is staffed and includes a JR ticket window for passenger convenience.
Railway Lines
The station is operated by JR Shikoku and is identified by the station number M12. It is a vital stop on the Mugi Line (also known as the Awa-Muroto Seaside Line). Anan Station is a significant operational point, situated 24.5 km from Tokushima. Notably, it acts as a major turnaround point, with more than half of the trains originating from Tokushima terminating here, especially given that passenger numbers drastically decrease south of Anan on the Mugi Line. As of the March 13, 2021 timetable revision, the last train arrives at Anan Station at 23:59, making it the latest arrival time for a final train in Tokushima Prefecture.
Station History
Anan Station first opened its doors on March 27, 1936, under the name Awa-Tomioka. It was later rebuilt in November 2003 and officially renamed Anan Station on November 1, 1966. With an average daily ridership of 1166 passengers in FY2023, it remains a busy and important transportation hub for the region.
Travel Tips
Given its role as a major turnaround point, travelers heading further south on the Mugi Line should be aware of potential changes or fewer train services beyond Anan. The late arrival time of the last train provides flexibility for evening travel within Tokushima Prefecture. Utilize the staffed ticket window for assistance and the accessible facilities for a comfortable journey.
