Location & Access
Amagi Station is not just one, but two distinct passenger railway stations located in the city of Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. These stations, though sharing the same name, are operated by different companies and are situated approximately 150 meters apart, separated by a traffic roundabout. This unique setup makes Amagi a fascinating hub for local travel.
Railway Lines
The larger of the two stations serves as the eastern terminus of the Amagi Railway Amagi Line, operated by the public-private partnership Amagi Railway (Amatetsu). Just a short walk to the east, across the roundabout, you'll find the northern terminus of the Nishitetsu Amagi Line, run by the private Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu). This dual operation provides travelers with diverse options for exploring the region.
Station History
The Nishitetsu Amagi Station, specifically, has a long history, having opened its doors on December 8, 1921. It features one island platform with two tracks and is an at-grade structure. Historically, before 1940, the area where the current Amagi Bus Center stands also hosted Amagi Stations for the Asakura Kido and Ryochiku Kido lines, highlighting the area's enduring importance as a transportation nexus.
Travel Tips
When visiting Amagi Station, be aware that you might need to transfer between the two separate stations depending on your destination. The short walk between them is easily manageable. The Nishitetsu Amagi Line connects to Miyanojin, while the Amagi Railway Amagi Line offers further regional connections. Check the respective railway schedules to plan your journey efficiently.
