Location & Access
Akatsuka Station was situated in the scenic Ōchi District of Shimane Prefecture, specifically within the town of Misato. While the station itself is no longer operational, the area offers a glimpse into rural Japanese life. Its coordinates are 35°02′56″N 132°35′02″E.
Railway Lines
Akatsuka Station was an integral part of the Sankō Line, operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The Sankō Line, known for its picturesque route through the Chūgoku region, connected Miyoshi Station in Hiroshima Prefecture with Gōtsu Station in Shimane Prefecture.
Station History
The station first opened its doors in 1967, serving the local community for over five decades. However, due to declining ridership and the overall closure of the Sankō Line, Akatsuka Station ceased operations on April 1, 2018, marking the end of an era for this rural railway.
Travel Tips
Although Akatsuka Station is no longer active, the former Sankō Line route can still be explored by car or local bus services that have replaced parts of the railway. Visitors to Misato can enjoy the natural beauty of Shimane Prefecture and experience the tranquility of a less-traveled part of Japan.
