Ajiyoshi Station (味美駅) is situated in Chunshincho 2-chome, Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture. It serves as a convenient access point for residents and visitors to this part of Kasugai. The station is operated by the JR-Central Transport Service Company (TKJ), a subsidiary of JR Central.
Railway Lines
Ajiyoshi Station is exclusively served by the Johoku Line, which runs between Kachigawa Station in Kasugai and Biwajima Station in Kiyosu. This 11.2 km (7.0 mi) line is notable for being the last remaining non-electrified railway line in Aichi Prefecture, offering a distinct travel experience. Services are operated using four KiHa 11 diesel multiple units.
Station History
The Johoku Line, and consequently Ajiyoshi Station, has a fascinating history. Proposed in 1962 and planned by Japanese National Railways (JNR) in the 1960s as a freight line, construction began in 1976 but was halted due to JNR's financial difficulties. The line was eventually completed by TKJ, opening in two sections in 1991 and 1993. Ajiyoshi Station itself opened on December 1, 1991.
Travel Tips
Trains on the Johoku Line run once an hour during the daytime, with increased frequency (two to three services per hour) during morning and evening peak times. Given its non-electrified nature, the journey offers a glimpse into a different era of Japanese rail travel. Travelers should check the TKJ website for the most current schedules.
