Aira Station is situated in Nishimochida, Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture. While it bears the city's name, the true city center of Aira is actually located at the adjacent Chōsa Station. Despite this, Aira Station remains a significant transportation hub for residents and visitors alike.
Railway Lines
The station is operated by JR Kyushu and is an integral part of the Nippō Main Line, connecting various key locations across the region. Travelers can access the station via the Nippō Main Line, with services running towards Shigetomi (for Kagoshima) and Chōsa (for Kokura). Notably, some limited express "Kirishima" trains also make a stop at Aira Station, offering enhanced connectivity for longer journeys.
Station History
Aira Station officially opened its doors to passengers on March 13, 1988. Since then, it has served the local community, facilitating daily commutes and regional travel. The station features a low embankment structure with a single side platform and one track. For the convenience of cyclists, a bike shed is available. While the station is not fully accessible due to steps leading to the platform, it does offer a staffed ticket window (outsourced) for passenger assistance.

Although Chōsa Station is the city's administrative center, Aira Station provides convenient access to parts of the city. Be sure to check the train schedule for the limited express "Kirishima" if you wish to utilize its faster service. With an average of 974 daily passengers in FY2022, it's a moderately busy station, ranking 158th within JR Kyushu's network.
