Iruka Tokyo (入鹿TOKYO) has earned a reputation as one of Tokyo's top tsukemen destinations, drawing crowds to the suburb of Higashikurume. Its specialty is a refined, multi-layered experience built around silky, flat noodles served in chilled kelp water (kombu-sui). The dipping soup, called the 'Quartet Soup', is a blend of four separately prepared stocks: chicken, Matsusaka beef, Ise-ebi (spiny lobster), and assorted shellfish, creating a deep and evolving umami flavour.
Guests consistently praise the quality of the noodles and the complexity of the soup. Signature dishes include the Porcini Oyster Shoyu Tsukemen and the Scallop Yuzu Shio Tsukemen. The meal is presented as a ritual, with instructions to first taste the noodles plain, then with matcha salt, before dipping. The bowls come loaded with premium toppings like various low-temperature chashu, duck, and two kinds of wontons. Reviewers in 2024–2026 typically paid around ¥1,500–¥1,700 for a special tsukemen set. The popular Suruga Bay Sakura Shrimp Kakiage side costs an additional ¥400–¥700. Most agree the price is fair for the craftsmanship, viewing it as a restaurant-level meal rather than a casual bowl of ramen.
However, visiting can be a challenge. The tiny, eight-seat counter means long queues are standard, managed by a sign-up sheet system that often requires arriving early. The shop frequently sells out of items. More concerningly, a number of reviewers have reported unprofessional staff behaviour, with some foreign visitors noting they felt unwelcome or were treated poorly.
